Ray Muzyka co-founded BioWare in the early 1990s after he completed his MD. Muzyka practiced Emergency/Family Med for 2 years full time, then medicine transitioned to part-time over the next 8 years as his second career focused on his role as BioWare's CEO.

BioWare (incorporated 1995) was the fastest growing company in Alberta in 2002 (2nd fastest in 1999, 2003) and has won multiple industry product awards for quality/innovation, as well as multiple years on Canada’s Top 100 Employers Awards.

BioWare received a major private equity investment from Elevation Partners in 2005 which enabled further growth. After selling BioWare to Electronic Arts in 2007, in 2009 Muzyka was promoted to SVP, GM of EA's BioWare Label, which in 2012 comprised 8 studios + 1400+ full time staff worldwide.

Muzyka retired in October 2012, with his 3rd 'career chapter' at ThresholdImpact focused on mentoring/investing in IT, new media and medical innovations with social entrepreneurs. He is an active angel investor, and also co-Chairman of CodeBaby, a leader in web-based virtual agent technology enabling companies to increase online customer engagement.

Muzyka obtained his BSc from the University of Alberta in 1990, his MD from the U of A in 1992, and his MBA from the University of Western Ontario (Ivey) in 2001.

Dr. Muzyka is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization, the A100, BAFTA (LA chapter), is on the board of trustees of the Stollery Health Foundation, was on the board (2001-2008) of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, is Chair of the U of A Venture Mentoring Service, is a member of the Ashoka Support Network, and was inducted into AIAS's Hall of Fame in 2011. He received GDC's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award, Canada's Top 40 under 40 in 2001, and Ernst & Young's 2001 Entrepreneur of the Year (Prairies) awards, among other awards.
