description
Nearly all surgical patients become hypothermic due to anesthesia. Anesthetized patients lose the ability to control their own temperature, which typically results in a 1.6 degree Celsius drop in core temperature in the first 30 minutes after induction. Hypothermia can cause complications like increased wound infections, increased blood loss, increased ICU time and hospital stays, and higher mortality rates.

SAFER: HotDog patient warming is associated with significantly lower infection rates in orthopedic implant surgery compared to forced-air warming, according to a recent study. Research published in the November 2011 issue of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-Br revealed: Orthopedic surgeons saw a 74% reduction in implant infections after switching to air-free HotDog patient warming. Researchers concluded: "Air-free warming, therefore, is recommended over forced-air warming for orthopedic procedures."

MORE EFFECTIVE: Along with patient safety, effective results are essential for patient-centered care. Published research shows that HotDog is equally effective at re-warming patients as forced-air warming. Customer experience, however, has shown that HotDog is often more effective for the following reasons: Air-free methods allow warming to be administered immediately upon arrival to the OR, resulting in better patient outcomes; Blowing air causes evaporative heat loss in wet procedures, and has a profound impact on burn patients and pediatric patients; Underbody Mattresses can provide unrestricted access to patients in cases where Over-the-body blankets cannot be used; And, since the goal of warming is reducing infections, HotDog is clearly superior in orthopedic implant surgeries.

LESS EXPENSIVE: Savings today...Sustainaility into the future. HotDog is a durable, reusable warming system designed for easy and safe cleaning. Because it's reusable, it reduces patient warming costs considerably--up to 50%. And, if it helps reduce your infection rate by even 1 deep joint infection, it could save your facility an additional $100,000 per infection. HotDog produces the best patient-centered care, at prices sutainable for healthcare providers.

GREEN: HotDog consumes 80% less energy than forced-air, which could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 200 million pounds per year! Disposables create mountains of waste. Switching to reusable HotDog warming could eliminate over 12 million pounds of forced-air disposable waste worldwide per year! Now there is an effective warming solution that is environmentally responsible.

OUR STORY:
Augustine Temperature Management is the first name in patient warming. Dr. Scott Augustine invented the patient warming field, when he pioneered forced-air warming 25 years ago. Due to concerns with patient safety in ultra-clean surgeries and the spiraling costs that forced-air disposables were putting on the healthcare system, Dr. Augustine and his team of engineers sought to create an alternative warming solution to meet the current needs of the healthcare community. The solution is HotDog air-free conductive fabric patient warming.
