When the fancy term "growth hacker" was coined in 2010 there was finally a concept that describes pretty well what I have done over the past 8 years: creating products for the web and grow their user base aggressively with a minimum use of resources. I like to take an holistic view at a business including marketing, sales, product design, audiences and technology to find the most efficient ways to make a business thrive.
Back in 2008 when we built VivaReal, which is now Brazil's most successful real estate marketplace, we had very limited financial resources, a very small development team, no marketing or product team and no clear commercial strategy. But the only things we really needed to get started were property listings and traffic. After we built a simple, 1st version of VivaReal we executed 2 strategies that made things work. We started to scrape other real estate portals for listings and I built an SEO strategy into our products from day 1. The marketplace took off and after pivoting a couple of times we defined our commercial strategy.
As of today we grew our monthly audience to 4 Million visitors and have over 1 Million active property listings on VivaReal, none of them scraped anymore. SEO still remains our dominant traffic source.

What I find most exciting is working with smart people that move fast, that are not afraid to break things, that think outside the box and most importantly are not afraid to fail. Not all strategies I thought of over the years were successful but I learned from my mistakes. Finding the one thing that works and is wildly successful, the one thing that accelerates the business to the next level, this is the one that makes all previous failures worth the pain.
