- The 3Dvarius company was created in 2016 by Laurent Bernadac and Géraldine Puel.
The 3Dvarius project begins in 2012 when Laurent Bernadac, violinist and engineer, decided to create his own electric violin. He wanted to create an electric violin which could fulfill all the needs of a classical musician.
A first prototype saw the day at the beginning of 2013, entirely hand-crafted by a stringed instrument maker, in transparent polycarbonate. But this violin was too heavy and thus hardly playable. Laurent continued working on developing and improving his violin: better design, weight reduction, smoother sound-wave flow, and refined curves.
In 2015, listening to the advice of a friend, Géraldine Puel, who brought her talents to this project, Laurent finished his second prototype, fully created with 3D-printing technology.
In 2016, the 4-string 3Dvarius was commercialized and after different events in the USA, the 3Dvarius team decided to create a new version of the 3Dvarius: the 3Dvarius (5-string).
